David Prepares for the Temple (Daily Portion 10110)
Scripture Passage:
1 Chronicles 22:1-19 David prepared for the temple God would not allow him to build. He collected materials and charged Solomon and his princes to build the house of the Lord.
What Does It Say?
- From the Zidonians and people of Tyre, David gathered __________ trees in abundance.
- David was determined that the house of the Lord must be exceeding _____________, of ________ and ___________ throughout all countries.
- David was a man of war, but his son would be a man of __________.
- David prepared seven things for the building of the temple: gold, silver, brass, iron, timber, stone and workmen. But he told Solomon, “thou mayest _______ thereto.”

What Does It Mean?
- This chapter begins, “Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God.” The temple has not yet been built. What does David mean? HINT: Check the last few verses of the previous chapter and compare with 2 Chronicles 3:1Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

- David testifies, “Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD” (v.14). Explain what he is talking about here.
What Does It Mean to Me?
- Though David was not allowed to build the temple, he made great preparation for it (v.5). What lessons can we learn from David’s action?
- David promises that Solomon will prosper if he takes heed to fulfill the statutes and judgments of the Lord (v.13). In another place, the Lord tells Joshua that his observance of the law will make his way prosperous and give him good success (Joshua 1:8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
