What Happened to Aaron's Rod?
What happened to Aaron's Rod after Moses struck the rock? Where is it? Does it still exist?
We know from Hebrews 9:4Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
See All... that Aaron's rod was placed in the Ark. "Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant."
However, we also know that it didn't remain there. In 1 Kings 8:8-9 [8] And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
[9] There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
See All..., during the reign of Solomon we read, "And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were seen without: and there they are unto this day. There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt."
As far as I'm aware, we don't read of the rod again. Where is it today? I don't know. Does it still exist? I don't know. I'm learning that when Scripture is silent on a matter, then that is for a good reason. If God wanted us to know He would have told us. We know exactly what God wants us to know and no more.
Just one thought in closing. I believe that Aaron's rod that budded speaks of new life and resurrection. It speaks surely of the Lord Jesus Christ. Perhaps we don't know any more about Aaron's rod because we don't need to; we have the Lord Jesus Christ and surely He is far more precious than anything that simply speaks of Him.
