INTRODUCTION: Messes tend to beget more messes. That is why it seems to take so long to get things right after they have really been messed up. However, that is the case in David’s reign and that is often the case in our own lives. The best thing is to simply pay the price and do whatever is necessary to put things right.

  1. THE REBELLION OF SHEBA (2 Samuel 20:1-7)
    1. Sheba, the Benjamite, Leads a Rebellion (2 Samuel 20:1-2).
      1. The man (2 Samuel 20:1)
        1. A man of Belial
        2. A Benjamite
      2. His rebellion (2 Samuel 20:1-2)
        1. He blows a trumpet (2 Samuel 20:1).
        2. He denies any part in David (2 Samuel 20:1).
        3. He gathers the men of Israel (2 Samuel 20:2).
        4. Judah remains faithful to David (2 Samuel 20:2).
    2. David Shuts His Concubines in a House (2 Samuel 20:3).
      1. Absalom had gone in to them (2 Samuel 16:20-22).
      2. David shuts them up.

  6. THE SONS OF THE GIANT (2 Samuel 21:15-22)

      1. David waxes faint in the battle with the Philistines (2 Samuel 21:15).
      2. Ishbibenob, a son of the giant, desires to slay David (2 Samuel 21:16).
      3. Abishai smites Ishbibenob and kills him (2 Samuel 21:17).
    2. Other Sons (2 Samuel 21:18-22)
      1. The death of Saph (2 Samuel 21:18)
      2. The death of Lahmi (2 Samuel 21:19; 1 Chronicles 20:5)
      3. The death of an unnamed man (2 Samuel 21:20-21).

CONCLUSION: Absalom is dead, but the battles continue. First, David and his men put to rest the rebellion led by Sheba. David atones for the wrongs of Saul with the Gibeonites, and he finishes off the brothers of Goliath.
