The God of All Comfort

Scripture Passage:
2 Corinthians 1:3-6

Introduction:  What separates a believer from a non-believer?  How do the unsaved handle the trials of life?  How do saved people handle the trials of life?  It is a shame to say, but the time when Christians ought to shine the most is the time where we bring the biggest reproach upon the faith.  How do you do when you are in the midst of a time of horrible trials?

  1. THE EXPECTATION OF TROUBLES (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
    1. Manifested by God’s Name (2 Corinthians 1:3)
      1. The Father of mercies
      2. The God of all comfort
    2. The Abundance of Tribulation – all our tribulation (2 Corinthians 1:4)
    3. The Abundance of Suffering – sufferings … abound (2 Corinthians 1:5)
  2. THE COMFORT AVAILABLE IN TROUBLES (2 Corinthians 1:4)
    1. Comfort in the Trials
      1. This comfort is not to remove us from the trials
      2. God is faithful in the midst of temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13)
    2. God Comforts us in All our Tribulation (Psalm 46:1-3)
  3. THE PURPOSE FOR OUR TROUBLES (2 Corinthians 1:4-6)
    1. To Enable us to Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4)
    2. To Increase our Effectiveness in Comforting Others (2 Corinthians 1:5)
    3. Our Troubles are For Others (2 Corinthians 1:6)

Conclusion:  Will you trust in God in the midst of troubles?  Are you willing to go through trials if it benefits others?
