Christ is the Head
Introduction:
In the Bible we find that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Body, which is the Church. If that is true then we ought to be able to look at the characteristics of the head in scripture and find that it points to some characteristics of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Let’s take a look at some of these and see if we can see Jesus.
- The Head is a Place of Life
- The Physical Head (Genesis 40:16-19 [16] When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
[17] And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
[18] And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
[19] Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

- The Physical Head (Genesis 48:14-20 [14] And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.
[15] And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
[16] The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
[17] And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.
[18] And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
[19] And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
[20] And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

Conclusion
As we have seen there are many correlations between the physical head and the Lord Jesus Christ, but this doesn’t just have to be a new little Bible study that we have done. It ought to remind us that Jesus Christ has done and is doing so much for us. Without Him we have no life. Without Him we do not receive the blessings of God. Without Him we would have sorrow and grief. Without Him we have to bear our own burdens. Without Him the judgment of God would be upon us. Without Him we have no salvation. One point that we did not mention tonight is that the head is a place of authority. My question to you is, does this Lord that has done so much for you have authority in your life? If not, there is no better time to surrender to Him than now.
