As I was watching a local meteorologist, a.k.a. "weather guy," explain a recent cold snap in our area, a beautiful picture of a mountain was displayed on the screen.  In order to resolve any confusion on the part of the viewers he noted that the white on the trees was NOT snow but what he called "hoar frost."  HOAR FROST?  I thought that the scholars, a.k.a. King James Bible critics, said that hoar frost was an archaic, obsolete term that made the King James Bible difficult to read and understand.  I was on a web site recently that cited 419 words and phrases (including hoar frost) from the King James Bible.  That list, like many others was designed to show that your King James Bible ought to be rendered in "modern English."  Apparently that term is NOT archaic, obsolete, or indecipherable, and the author of that list LIED!

It turns out, after searching a number of web sites dealing with meteorology, that hoar frost is a specific type of frost, and it certainly matches the usage found in your King James Bible.  The first time that phrase occurs in the word of God, it is used to describe manna.  In Exodus 16:14And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
See All..., the Lord talks about the first appearance of what the Bible calls "angels' food" (Psalm 78:25Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
See All...) and He says, "…there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground."  Certainly that matches the descriptions that I have read of hoar frost for it is repeatedly described as being made up of small ice crystals.

As a side note, there are a number of other characteristics of manna found in Exodus 16 that matches the characteristics of hoar frost:

1. Heat causes hoar frost to melt-"…and when the sun waxed hot, [the manna] melted" (verse 21).
2. Manna is likened to "coriander seed" in verse 31, and interestingly, I have seen more than one website that talked about hoar frost growing from "an initial SEED!"
3. Like manna, hoar frost is also white-"... and it was like coriander seed, white…" (verse 31).

Now the new versions, in keeping with the criticism that hoar frost is an archaic term, remove this term and replace it with the generic, non-specific word frost (see  Exodus 16:14And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
See All..., and Psalm 147:16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
See All... in those versions).  In an attempt to be "relevant" and up-to-date, they have, in fact, taken a step backward.  Their minds seem to display the effects of frostbite-tissue damage!  Job 37:10By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
See All... says, "By the breath of God frost is given…"  If God's breath (inspiration) produced hoar frost in Exodus 16:14And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
See All... and hoar frost in Psalm 147:16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
See All... it would be wise to just believe what God gave you.

Once again, scholarship that criticizes the King James Bible has proven to be untrustworthy.  Proverbs 30:5Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
See All... says, "Every word of God is pure: he [the word of God] is a shield unto them that put their trust in him [the word of God]."  Where is your trust?  In the critics of the King James Bible, or the Book that God gave you?
