Announcements

  • We will have a special meal at the church on Saturday, April 13th.  The losers in the March Penny March for Bibles (men or ladies) will bring the food, serve the meal and clean up afterwards.  The present score is two for the boys and one for the girls.  This will change Sunday morning.
  • King James Bible Believers’ Conference will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Knoxville on June 10th and 11th.

Church Ministry

  • Pray for the Lord to open the door for a juvenile ministry at Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center.  The director of this facility is blocking the gospel from being preached to the youth who are detained here.  (There are usually over 100 young people kept overnight at the center.)  We have people willing to go but they cannot.  Pray that God would do whatever is necessary to open this facility to the gospel.  God’s word is the only thing that can really help these young people.

Church News

  • We are getting the coil replaced on one of the air conditioners downstairs (library side).  We lost the use of this air conditioner last fall.
  • Pastor and Mrs. Reagan are researching the Independent Baptist Church Movement in the Knoxville area.  We are especially interested in information and pictures about these churches between 1930 and 1970.  Churches that we know existed fairly early include Bible Baptist Church, Memorial Baptist Church, North Hills Baptist Church, Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle, Gospel Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church (now on Woodrow).  If you have any information about these or other churches or know who might, please let us know.

Preaching/Teaching

  • Last week’s Sunday School lesson was on the rebellion of Miriam and Aaron against Moses (Numbers 12).  This next week’s lesson will be about the sending of the twelve spies into the land of Canaan and the report they brought back (Numbers 13).
  • Pastor Reagan preached Sunday morning on “Our Debt to the Next Generation” from Psalm 78:1-11.  His points were:
    1. We Must Listen to the Faithful Generation (v.1-3)
      1. We must listen to the words of God (v.1)
      2. We must listen to the hard sayings (v.2)
      3. We must listen to our Fathers (v.3)
    2. We Must Prepare the Coming Generation (v.4-7)
      1. We must show the works of God (v.4)
      2. We must teach the words of God (v.5-6)
      3. We must uplift the will of God (v.7)
    3. We Must Reject the Rebellious Generation (v.8-11)
      1. We must reject their spirit (v.8)
      2. We must reject their cowardice (v.9)
      3. We must reject their disobedience (v.10-11)
  • Pastor Reagan taught Sunday evening on the heavenly worship of the four beasts and 24 elders (Revelation 4:8-11).  He described God’s holiness as the most excellent of all His perfections.  He gave five reasons.
    1. God is called the Holy One forty-eight times in the Bible (see Isa 1:4; 40:25)
    2. God’s name is described as “holy” more than with any other adjective (see 1Chr 16:10; Ps 103:1; 105:3)
    3. God’s holiness is the only attribute by which He is given a threefold praise (Isa 6:3; Rev 4:8)
    4. Holiness is the characteristic by which God makes an oath (Ps 89:35; Am 4:2); His holiness is given as a pledge of assurance that He will fulfill His promises
    5. Holiness is God’s glory and beauty (2Chr 20:21; Ps 29:2; 96:9)

World News

  • In the year 1858, Hudson Taylor’s mission in China was beginning to reach some of the Chinese people with the gospel.  There was Neng-kuei the basket-maker, Wang the farmer and Tsui the teacher.  One evening, a Mr. Ni passed by the open door where the bell was being rung to announce the time for Bible services to begin.  Mr. Ni had never heard the gospel, but he had searched all his life for the truth.  He had studied Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and had found no rest.  He stepped in to hear the religious message.
  • As he listened to the message taken from John 3:14-17 about how Christ became sin for all, he understood many things for the first time.  At the close of the service, he arose and announced that he had finally found the peace he had long sought for and that from henceforth he would be a believer in Jesus.
  • He proved true to his word and became one of the most faithful workers in the mission.  One day, he asked Hudson Taylor, “How long have you had the Glad Tidings in your country?”  The missionary reluctantly told him, “Some hundreds of years.”  “What!” replied Mr. Ni, “My father sought the Truth and died without finding it.  Oh, why did you not come sooner?”
